Pr John Horne (Trinity College) will discuss an essential paradox in the contemporary European history: Its turning points occurred less during the wars than in the post-war periodswhen Europeans had to confront the violence which had so deeply divided them. Thus - taking a balanced view - one can offer an interpretation of the 20th century that is less dark and more optimistic.
